Liner Note from the original release:
"The concept behind the Avareh album emerged in 2000 when I delved into the traditional music of Iran, aiming to fuse its essence with various jazz styles. This fusion unfolds in three distinct approaches:
1. Integrating Persian music modes and motifs into jazz structures, as exemplified in "Land of Fire," where the improvisational reed (Nay) of Afshari, a Persian Dastgaah, harmonizes with jazz chord progressions.
2. Showcasing reed instrument melodies rooted in Persian traditional music, accompanied by a standard jazz quartet, as heard in "Green Desert," where Persian melodies intertwine seamlessly with jazz harmonies.
3. Experimenting with jazz-based melodies and structures, complemented by traditional Persian instruments, such as the Nay in "Avareh," a jazz ballad enriched by Persian reeds instead of conventional Western wind instruments.
Notably, tracks like "Bidad" (Progressive Rock) and "Cold Dream" (inspired by pop and rock) diverge from these fusion styles. The album, recorded over several years, features talented musicians like Kaveh Sarwarian on Nay and Tombak, Mahan Mirarab on guitar, Amin Taheri on drums, and jazz bassists Dara Daraee and Peter Acoub. Each composition is imbued with a conceptual depth, inviting listeners to uncover its intricacies."
